Transform 815: Club Blue founder Jayme Bastian and her ‘angels’ throw grand affair to help Rockford area kids in need

A panoramic photo of Club Blue’s “angels” on the Rockford nonprofit’s home page could be mistaken for a Tim Burton-themed Vanity Fair cover.

The group of women — sporting couture cocktail dresses, jail-stripe leggings, carnival-barker top hats, hula hoops and parasols — are the planners behind Club Blue’s annual fundraiser, which benefits local charities. Every year they take a portrait to hint at the event’s decor theme.

Among the group of expressive, costumed women is Club Blue’s founder, Jayme Bastian, a Racine, Wisconsin, native who moved to Rockford 10 years ago. She started Club Blue with a group of friends after learning about a shortage in funding for area nonprofits providing services to children in need.

“We’ve built awareness in a community that otherwise wouldn’t have known about these services,” Bastian said.
